AC Input
The data acquisition system is capable of measuring AC values from 0.1 volt to 2.048 volts peak
Tachometer- Synchronized Measurements
The analyzer can use the tachometer input to synchronously sample and average data. These data contain phase information for vibration related to the tachometer. The analyzer can report phase to ±3 degrees for this vibration, which is reproducible to 1 degree.
Unconditioned Tachometer Input
Tachometer signal processing electronics are capable of adjusting the full-scale input range to handle any available sensor for measuring speed. Adjustment of the tachometer conditioning electronics is performed automatically by the microprocessor and requires no user intervention. The voltage level that is used as a reference for detection of the start of the revolution can be adjusted from 120mV to 5 volts. The tachometer circuitry can detect speeds up to 10.000 RPM.
Auto-ranging Input
The analyzer auto-ranges all signal inputs based on sensor sensitivity. That way, it can determine the optimum gain setting to achieve the maximum dynamic range. Gains are adjusted by factors of two (1 to 512) for all channels. This adjustment enables the analyzer to perform each measurement without overload and with maximum accuracy.
Sensor Types
The analyzer will accept any vibration signal input (acceleration, velocity, or displacement). The input is then displayed as collected or integrated to another vibration unit. The vibration input will accept any voltage-generating sensor (must have external charge converter when required).
Analysis Range
Data is accurately transformed from the time to frequency domain using a high roll-off, 8-pole elliptical, anti-aliasing filter with a Fast Fourier Transformer (FFT). The analyzer will perform FFT resolutions of 100, 200, 400, and 800 lines.

Overview In today’s economy, plants are continually looking for ways to remain competitive in the marketplace. For maintenance departments, this often translates into fewer staff and smaller budgets. In this do-more-with-less environment, maintenance personnel can’t afford to continuously chase the next breakdown. They need to quickly and accurately identify developing faults and determine the root cause of the machinery problem so it can be fixed.
The CSI 2140 is the next generation in a family of industry-leading vibration analyzers and data collectors from Emerson.
As with previous models, the CSI 2140 can provide:
- Route vibration collection
- Advanced vibration analysis
- Cross-channel analysis
- Transient analysis
- Dynamic balancing
- Motor monitoring
- ODS modal analysis
In addition to providing fast, actionable information, an effective solution must take advantage of modern communication and interface innovations that make tasks easier and more intuitive. Emerson’s CSI 2140 Machinery Health Analyzer was designed specifically with these goals in mind.
Wirelessly upload route data and corrective maintenance jobs from the field to AMS Suite: Machinery Health Manager for analysis and reporting. AMS Machinery Manager integrates data from multiple technologies, including vibration, oil analysis, thermography, and balancing into a single database. Alerts generated by AMS Machinery Manager can be exported automatically to AMS Suite: Asset Performance Management where they are combined with alerts from other plant assets to provide a unified view of your plant’s health. Together, the CSI 2140 and AMS Suite deliver the predictive intelligence necessary for increasing availability and reliability in the plant.
More Power That is Easy to Carry into the Field
Route data collection can be a long process – and you need an analyzer that has the battery power to last an entire shift and comfortable enough to carry around all day. The CSI 2140 takes advantage of ergonomic principles and advanced engineering to address these needs. This thinner, lighter analyzer is comfortable to carry on long routes and operate with one hand. The shoulder strap has a large, slip-proof padded area to reduce friction on the neck and back. Connecting the strap is as simple as the push of a button, making it easy to quickly reconfigure for left- or right-hand users.
Visibility in Any Environment. Struggling to see the details of spectrum or waveform data due to sunlight or other lighting conditions is a thing of the past. The CSI 2140’s glove-friendly touch screen features an auto light sensor that adjusts the screen’s backlight to the ambient lighting of the environment for optimal viewing. Visibility is maintained as you move from one area of the plant to another – from direct sunlight to darker interior locations. A backlit keypad allows continued operation of the unit in the darkest environments. In the office, the built-in stand sets the unit at the best angle for viewing data. Charger and communication cables are located at the top of the unit so they do not interfere with the standing position.
Uninterrupted Route Collection. The CSI 2140 has the longest battery life available in the market, which means no more long trips back to the office to dump data or deal with a dead battery. New Lithium-Ion batteries extend battery life and route coverage to a full shift – maybe two – from a single charge. If you do choose to change out the battery, the unit is re-engineered to make the task simple enough to accomplish even in the field. In addition, an external charger allows you to charge a spare battery while you continue to use your analyzer in the field. A car charger option enables you to deliver a charge enroute.
The CSI 2140 uses local hotspot availability to wirelessly transfer data back to the office for quick analysis or from remote locations to a centralized server. Your team can perform route collection and analysis in parallel to maximize your efficiency.
Embedded Intelligence
The ability to perform additional diagnostic tests at the machine site transforms simple data collection into an effective machinery health program. In today’s demanding work environment, it is difficult to find the time to acquire advanced analysis skills. Embedded intelligence, enabled through Analysis Experts, allow even a novice user to conduct sophisticated troubleshooting tests with the touch of a button. Technicians don’t need to remember the complexity of setting up a test they only perform a few times a year – yet they can gain the benefit of its diagnostics when needed. The bottom-line impact is that users can quickly do more in the field with the CSI 2140, avoiding further deterioration of equipment condition.
Building on Field-Proven Technology
Emerson’s next generation vibration analyzer builds on the field-proven, industry-leading technology of its predecessors. The same great capabilities you count on in the CSI 2130 are available in the CSI 2140.
Earliest Detection of Bearing and Gear Wear - Detecting imbalance or misalignment is simple with most data collectors, but these issues are the least impactful of the faults you will find on your equipment. Over 50% of mechanical faults are due to bearing and gearbox issues. And most data collectors do not have the technology to detect these faults as they are developing – and can only find them when the machinery is already damaged and near failure.
The CSI 2140 uses Emerson’s patented PeakVue™ processing and applies digital technology to determine bearing and gear wear earlier than any other technology. By measuring stress waves emitted from impacting – the earliest sign of bearing and gear wear – the CSI 2140 gives you time to plan for maintenance on your machine – while avoiding significant, and costly, damage.
PeakVue technology not only offers the earliest warning of developing faults, it also provides an indication of severity. Measurements can be translated into reliable trends to determine the optimal timing for maintenance. Machinery faults are clearly visible in the waveform, opening up new options for fault detection and diagnosis.
Full Range of Measurement - The CSI 2140 sets the industry bar with its exceptional frequency range. The CSI 2140 can accurately measure signals on critical low speed equipment that would be out of range for other vibration analyzers/ collectors. The CSI 2140 also boasts the highest frequency range in the market. It can measure signals up to 80,000 Hz, critical for accurate diagnosis of centrifugal compressors and other high-speed machinery.
The Emerson CSI 2140 Machinery Health Analyzer is a 24-bit precision vibration analysis device which allows for accurate measurement of frequency vibrations from 10 Hz to 80 kHz. Technicians can choose from averaging modes like exponential, peak hold, order tracking and more. Emerson CSI 2140 test instruments synthesize data from multiple technologies, including oil analysis, thermography, balancing and vibration into an AMS Suite database, and then combine them with alerts relating to other plant assets for a holistic view of plant health. One, two and four-channel options are available. Four-channel devices collect vertical, horizontal and axial readings via a triaxial accelerometer.

Impaq Plus is a fully rugged portable 4 channel real-time analyzer built for advanced noise and vibration measurements in the field. Manufactured with a rugged enclosure by a dual injection molding process and protective sealing to provide an IP 65 rating for measurement in harsh environments. Equipped with a large 10.1” multi-touch color display, information is not only on display, but a more intuitive user interface with keypads on the left side. Impaq Plus acquires measurement signal with precision 24 bit sigma delta AD converters to provide a high dynamic range and a up to 40 kHz maximum bandwidth.
With optional software modules, the impaq Plus can conduct FFT spectrum analysis, Order Tracking Analysis and Octave spectrum analysis at the same time. Besides, it can be used as a digital signal recorder for continuous raw data recording and playback analysis. The optional balancing module supports all kinds of field balancing tasks with all the most advanced features.
Multiple Analysis
impaq Plus supports multiple analysis which allows you to run different analysis modules, such
as FFT analysis, Octave spectrum, order tracking analysis and raw data recording, at the same time.
Modular Software
The impaq Plus’s modular software allows for the proper configuration of your analyzer. Optional modules available are raw data recorder, FFT spectrum analysis, 1/3 Octave spectrum analysis, computed order tracking analysis and Rotor balancing.
Raw Data Recorder
The Raw Data Recorder software module allows the user to measure analog signals in the Recorder mode or Real-time Recorder mode and store the raw data signal directly to the hard drive or memory. Replay the stored raw signal in the playback mode with selected analysis modules as if the signal is from a real-time acquisition.
FFT Spectrum Analysis module
The FFT (Fourier Transform) spectrum analysis provides up to 14 different measurement functions for your sound and vibration needs. Continuous start-up/ coast-down spectrum and display the results on a 3D waterfall/ intensity plot. Perform modal, ODS, envelope testing and more.
General sound & vibration analysis
Modal testing and ODS measurement
Sound intensity measurement
Sound and vibration quality measurement
Stiffness measurement
Bearing diagnosis (envelope spectrum and waveform)
Variable speed machine measurement
Octave spectrum analysis module
The octave spectrum analysis utilizes parallel time domain filters to generate octave, 1/3 octave or 1/12 octave spectrum. Conforming to IEC 61260 and IEC 61672 standards, this module is suitable for evaluating the sound or vibration severity. Built-in user defined weighting functions supports specific measurements such as: ISO 6954 (vibration on ships), ISO 8041 and ISO 2631 (human vibration) to name a few. Many high-tech factories are concerned about floor vibration. User defined VC curves can be displayed on the Octave spectrum plot to determine the level of vibration.
Computed Order Tracking module
The computed order tracking program is designed to measure sound and vibration on varying speed machines. A digital re-sampling algorithm is used to make the spectral resolutions be the same at different rotation speeds. Typical applications for this software module are NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) testing of vehicles or advanced vibration analysis of turbine machines. Order spectrum, order traces, filtered or unfiltered orbits, gap reading, and centerline of a shaft are accurately measured and displayed during a start-up or coast-down process. The user can input geometric position(s) of the vibration sensors to display orbit and shaft centerline motion, which relates to the
realistic behavior of a turbine machine.
Rotor Balancing module
The Impaq Plus’s rotor balancing package can balance your rotating machines in the field with industry leading balancing techniques like; single plane, dual plane, overhung dual plane, 3 plane, 4 plane and 3 weights balancing. This advanced balancing software makes it very simple to balance machines in-field with a very high level of accuracy. Now with multiple-point balancing, vibration in both horizontal and vertical directions are minimized at the same time. By enabling coast-down measurements for 1X vibration, the heavy spot is identified correctly with only one measurement, saving you time, money and
increasing safety. This technique prevents the user from danger by putting the trial weights in the wrong place and shortens the time required to balance. Other features / functions are:
Multi-point balancing
Component calculation
Drill depth calculation
Allowable residual unbalance calculated from the ISO 1940 standard
Unequal radii calculation
Decoupled balancing (couple static)
Review historical vibration data on a polar plot.
Review historical balancing data on a polar plot
Heavy spot estimation with one shot measurement.
Redo a previous balancing job with saved balancing factors.
